We hope that this letter finds you well. It was twenty-five years ago that we converted a little tractor barn into a winery and made our first vintage of David Arthur. Twenty-five years ago, we only made a Chardonnay. Today, we cultivate only red varietals. Instead of a tractor shed for a fermentation room, we now have a handsome new state-of-the-art winemaking facility. Thinking back to the early days, it seems that things were relatively straightforward. Just two young guys, doing the best they could to make a nice Chardonnay. On the whole, David Arthur has been blessed. We have had the privilege of having access to a wonderful microclimate and world-class soils. From these vineyards we have had the luxury of making some nice wines.
In addition to the completion of our new winery, we are extremely pleased to announce that Nile Zacherle is our new full-time winemaker. Nile started with us in June of last year. We have never met a guy so unrelenting in his efforts to make the best wines ever. His handiwork is evident in the release of our 2006 vintage. The 2006 wines are “classic” David Arthur, with rich, bold fruit and a finish that is distinctive to Pritchard Hill. For those of you that have had the opportunity of tasting this 2006 vintage you can relate. We are proud of these wines.
The 2007’s are resting as we write this letter and will be bottled in late July. Like the 2006’s, these wines are complex, fully structured Cabernets; think highly extracted, opulent in color, hillside grown grapes.
As always, we hope that if you are planning on visiting the Napa Valley this year you will stop by to try these wines and see the new David Arthur winery. We send our very best regards, with hopes that our paths cross soon.
All the best,
